WHAT TO DO AFTER BEING INJURED ?

 


This is the commonest thing that people should know about to take care of themselves in the early stage of injury in order to promote healing and for better and faster recovery.

Here are certain things which you can do that will help you to recover better.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER INJURY:

P - Protect, Don’t move! Let the injured part rest for 1-3 days initially else it might increase your injury and lead to sustain bleeding. SO, REST.

But rest should only be there for short period of time, don’t make an excuse to rest for longer duration as it will later compromise your strength and recovery.

E - Elevate your legs up, above the level of the heart in order to reduce swelling. This is an effective advice; Try it out for your swollen issues

A - Avoid Anti-inflammatory Modalities! Shocked? Yes these might inhibit the normal mechanism of inflammation that usually occurs after any injury and further affect your long term healing, Specially taking higher doses of Anti-inflammatory has not shown any good effects in proper healing.

C - Compress, your injury using various things like Crape Bandages, Taping or any external support. This really helps in improving circulation, reducing swelling and helps improve your quality of life.

E - Educate! Everyone should be educated enough on the benefits that they get from this active approach of treatment which will lead to better recovery than using all those passive equipments like Medications, Machines which will give you temporary relief and has lesser effect than when you work for yourself on your own. If you are educated enough about all these things it will somehow help you in avoiding Overtreatment, Unnecessary medications and reduce your cost of Health care treatments.

AFTER THE INITIAL DAYS:

L - Load; yes load the muscle, or the joint. Start doing movements and exercises slowly that doesn’t cause any discomfort or pain. Try to do all your normal daily routine activities as your symptoms allow. Loading that is optimal will help you in repair and remodeling of injured tissues and help you regain normal strength and capacity sooner.

O - Optimism, if you are an Optimistic patient your expectations are linked with better results and prognosis. Whereas people who are experiencing Psychological aspects like anxiety, depression and fear will somehow cause a significant barrier and restriction to their own recovery

V -Vascularization – Cardiovascular activity is important here, start doing some aerobic activity after few days that will help you in increasing your motivation and will increase blood flow to the tissues that were injured.

This will reduce your need for pain medication, will support and maximize your recovery and will surely improve all your functions.

E - Exercise- It has been proven that exercise has tremendous benefits in healing and recovery of the soft tissues injury may be an ankle sprain or a hamstring strain any soft tissue injury will be benefited with exercises. It will help you in restoring the mobility, strength and flexibility of the tissues back to normal. But, Keep in mind not to do any exercise that will aggravate your pain.
